This section lists print resources about library services for people with disabilities. Included are:

Online Bibliographies and Databases

[bullet] Disability, Culture and Service Issues: A Selected Bibliography by Bob L. Dunlap II, a graduate student at Kent State University, School of Library and Information Science, is an excellent guide to recent publications about library services to people with disabilities.

[bullet] Search NARIC's REHABDATA database for articles and other resources. For best results, use the rotated thesaurus; select "L" and then "Libraries."

[bullet] Search the ERIC database. For best results, search for the terms "disabilities" and "library services" as descriptors.

[bullet] Search Amazon.com. For best results, do a book search for "libraries and the handicapped".
Disability Resources' Articles

As part of its effort to promote and improve awareness of resources to foster independent living, Disability Resources works closely with the library community to provide information about books, videotapes, pamphlets, and other pertinent resources for library collections. The organization's president, Julie Klauber, has contributed several articles to professional publications in the library field.

[bullet] "Living Well with a Disability: How Libraries Can Help," American Libraries, November 1998, pp. 52-55.
[bullet] "An Enabling Collection for People with Disabilities," Library Journal, April 1, 1996, pp. 53-56.
[bullet] "Toy Story - How to Select and Buy Adaptive Toys," School Library Journal, July 1996, pp. 22-25.

If you do not have these publications available in your library, we would be happy to provide reprints for $2 each ($4 outside the U.S.) to cover postage and handling. Send prepaid orders to: Reprints, Disability Resources, inc., Four Glatter Lane, Centereach, NY 11720-1032.

Library Literature in DRM

Since Disability Resources Monthly (DRM) subscribers include hundreds of public, academic and special libraries, we often include information about resources of particular interest to librarians in DRM. The following is a list of some of the titles we've covered. (Note: We do not sell any of these publications ourselves; our purpose is purely informational. DRM provides complete bibliographic data, descriptions or reviews, and purchasing information.)

[Check It Out] Disability Resources' annotated bibliography of books, videotapes and other resources about Inclusion & Parent Advocacy was developed specifically for public library collections.
